Temple details
- About this temple
Recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest comprehensive Hindu temple, it was built in just five years with contributions from over 11,000 artisans and dedicated volunteers. The main monument — a pink sandstone and white marble masterpiece — rises 42.7 metres and showcases intricate carvings of over 20,000 deities, saints, and figures from Hindu scriptures, inspired by ancient Vedic architecture (Vastu and Pancharatra Shastra). At its heart, the central shrine enshrines a gold-plated murti of Bhagwan Swaminarayan in divine splendour. The sprawling 100-acre complex includes thematic exhibitions like Sahajanand Darshan (boat ride through Indian cultural history), Neelkanth Darshan (IMAX film on Swaminarayan), the 'Garden of India,' and a dazzling evening musical fountain show. Akshardham is not only a place of worship but an immersive cultural and spiritual experience for people of all faiths, drawing millions of visitors each year from around the world. It stands as a symbol of India's timeless artistic, philosophical, and spiritual heritage.
