Temple details
- About this temple
The Devalaya's architecture page records that the present temple was rebuilt in 1565 using remains of an 11th–12th century stone temple, combining North Indian nagara and saracenic forms into what it names the Nilachala style. The official history page notes mentions of Kamakhya in texts such as the Kalika Purana and Yogini Tantra, and that the shrine rose again to prominence with the Koch kingdom in the mid-16th century. Administration is associated with the Bardeuri Samaj and the Office of the Doloi. The festival calendar published by the Devalaya includes Ambubachi Mela in Ashara, Manasa Puja with Deodhani dance, Durga Puja observed as a fortnight at the pithasthan, and Kumari Puja.
